WMS Training tips you need to know?

This means that the potential gains, for many companies, have not yet been fully realized. However, analyzing the current scenario shows that companies are not refraining from making such investments simply because they lack this technology; it definitely seems like the wrong choice.

In the case of the specific WMS (Warehouse Management System) solution, which allows for improvements in customer service levels and efficiency gains in material storage activities, it is clear that, when implemented in a company, this technology changes the way work is done by optimizing the processes that comprise these activities.

But do companies know where they are, what is changing, and where it is moving?

Investing in WMS solutions alone doesn’t create advantages or improvements for the company. What generates a return on investment and brings benefits isn’t the improvement in technology, but rather how it’s used. The value of information technology depends on the quality of the data and information, and its relevance to the warehouse strategy and the services it intends to provide to its customers.

All this technology can be an important factor for the company, but it will be useless without adequate training and development of its people. It’s not difficult to see that this technology is constantly and rapidly improving, and on the other hand, the people involved with this technology have different experiences and paradigms, which implies different levels and scope of contact with the technology in terms of basic knowledge, which is even more exacerbated when we refer to specific knowledge. For some, the obvious may seem challenging.

Companies cannot continue to design information systems expecting them to work simply by modifying their practices and adapting to the system.

Considering that WMS is a relatively new system on the market, and practically a complete novelty for many companies currently considering adopting it, existing knowledge about this solution within the company is very limited. Above all, it is essential that employees invest in the knowledge and skills necessary to build a foundation that supports the successful performance of the WMS within the company.

The means to achieve these goals is training:

Training can enable the trainee to acquire skills and knowledge, and even further, it could mean a change in an individual’s behavior, rather than simply increasing knowledge. Therefore, training must be carefully designed and implemented.

One of the purposes of training is to ensure the full utilization of human, material, and financial resources involved in material storage.

Therefore, the organization of the training and its respective activities will depend on the characteristics of each company and its products and services offered.

Important aspects to consider when organizing the training:

Identifying training needs through a diagnosis that should consider all the vital points for developing the implementation plan;

Identifying how the work should be performed by the employee and what knowledge, skills, and attitudes will be developed so that employees can perform their duties in the best possible way.

Therefore, the intention here is not to demonstrate how to conduct training, but to highlight all the aspects involved and provide support for reflecting on the need and importance of training in light of a new information technology, the WMS.
